Most people consider their dining room or dining area the focal space of their home as it evokes warmth and togetherness. It is where family, friends, and guests come together over food, endless conversations, and more often than not, endless wine.
Whether you are creating your dining room from scratch or thinking to revamp your existing one, here are some essentials you should keep in mind:
CHOOSE THE RIGHT TABLE WIDTH
Your table width should be in proportion to your space. If you have limited space, opt for 4- 6 seaters or an extendable table. If you have the liberty of a large space, 10-12 seaters unfailingly spell grandeur and can, of course, accommodate more people.
DEFINE THE SPACE
Greg Natale of Greg Natale Design Studio suggests, “Dining tables and chairs tend to become a little lost at times – placing a rug beneath them can help to prevent this. A simple rule to keep in mind is that the rug should be 600mm (23.5 inches) wider than the table on all sides.”
Make sure that the table and chair heights are proportion. Otherwise, it will be very uncomfortable.
ROUND TABLE FOR FLOW
Because round tables have no sharp corners, it creates an illusion of fluidity. This is ideal for both an indoor and outdoor setting.
Great lighting over the dining table spells a lot of difference. Choose one that beautifully compliments the aesthetic of your dining room. Your lighting can be subtle or can be as bold as you like and can serve as a conversation piece.
A great way to store dining essentials and hiding clutter is to add a buffet or sideboard to your dining room. It can also serve as an added table to add accent pieces or accommodate more food and drinks, ideal for when you are hosting lunches and dinner parties!
