WHAT ARE THE OUTDOOR WOOD OPTIONS?
Philux offers sustainably-sourced European White Oak and Teak wood, which are both commonly used for outdoor furniture. Pieces in Oak are suited to withstand light to moderate outdoor use and are recommended to be placed in covered outdoor areas only, while pieces in Teak may be placed in uncovered outdoor areas. Kindly note that furniture ordered in Oak and Teak are considered made-to-order pieces, and may require a longer lead time.
MAY I SELECT THE WOOD FINISH FOR OAK AND TEAK WOOD?
Philux's pieces in Oak and Teak wood are only available in a Natural finish as they are coated in an outdoor furniture oil for extra protection from the elements.
MAY I ORDER DESIGNS OUTSIDE OF THE OUTDOOR COLLECTION IN OAK OR TEAK?
The Philux Outdoor Collection includes the Palma Armchair, Palma 2 Seater Sofa, Palma 3 Seater Sofa and Palma Coffee Table. Philux furniture designs that are made of 100% solid wood may be made in Oak or Teak wood, but would be subject to review by our Research & Development team in order to ensure designs are suited to outdoor wood options. However, furniture designs with veneer or metal accents cannot be made in Oak or Teak wood. Kindly note that furniture ordered in Oak and Teak are considered made-to-order pieces, and may require a longer lead time.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE OUTDOOR FABRIC?
Unlike regular indoor fabrics, outdoor fabrics come with a protective layer designed to resist oil absorption and prevent stains. This protective layer is vital for maintaining the aesthetic appeal and longevity of the furniture, especially when exposed to various weather conditions. We recommend choosing outdoor fabric for your outdoor furniture to ensure a longer lifespan for your investment, as it can withstand the challenges posed by outdoor elements.
SHOULD I ORDER OUTDOOR COVERS?
It is highly recommended that outdoor covers be used in order to protect the pieces from the elements and to maintain the hue and quality of the wood.
HOW DO I CARE FOR TEAK AND OAK WOOD PIECES?
When storing Oak and Teak wood furniture pieces, using a protective cover will significantly help prolong its lifespan. Note that when using a cover, it is important to air out the furniture occasionally to allow air circulation and prevent moisture from building up underneath the cover.
For proper care maintenance of furniture pieces in Oak or Teak wood, it is recommended that only a damp cloth be used for cleaning, at least once a year. Avoid harsh cleaning chemicals, pressure-washing, and steel wool since it may cause damage to the wood.
Furthermore, it is recommended that furniture pieces in Oak or Teak wood be recoated in an outdoor furniture oil every 6 months. Applying an outdoor furniture oil will help prevent the aging process of the wood and prevent the dirt and debris on the wood from molding. For best results, it is recommended that the wood be sanded while oiling it in order to preserve its natural hue. Note that it is best to ensure that the oil has dried prior to placing cushions back on furniture pieces, otherwise, the oil may stain the fabric.
Extreme heat over a prolonged period of time may naturally cause cracks. On the other hand, extreme moisture may naturally cause mold. Thus, it is best to regularly oil the furniture so that the natural wood grain is fed and flexible, and is saturated with oil causing water moisture to pearl off the wood.
